Propagates via removable drives
This worm arrives by connecting affected removable drives to a system.
It drops an AUTORUN.INF file to automatically execute the copies it drops when a user accesses the drives of an affected system.
It connects to a website to send and receive information. It may also connect to Internet Relay Chat (IRC) servers and receive commands from a remote user.

This worm arrives by connecting affected removable drives to a system.
Installation
This worm drops the following copies of itself into the affected system:
- %System Root%\CONFIG\S-1-5-21-1482476501-1644491937-682003330-1013\usr.exe
(Note: %System Root% is the root folder, which is usually C:\. It is also where the operating system is located.)
It drops the following non-malicious file:
- %System Root%\CONFIG\S-1-5-21-1482476501-1644491937-682003330-1013\Desktop.ini
(Note: %System Root% is the root folder, which is usually C:\. It is also where the operating system is located.)
It creates the following folders:
- %System Root%\CONFIG\S-1-5-21-1482476501-1644491937-682003330-1013
- %System Root%\CONFIG
(Note: %System Root% is the root folder, which is usually C:\. It is also where the operating system is located.)
It injects itself into the following processes as part of its memory residency routine:
- explorer.exe

Step 1
Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.

Step 4
Delete this registry key

Search and delete AUTORUN.INF files created by WORM_HAMWEQ.DN that contain these strings

Restart in normal mode and scan your computer with your Trend Micro product for files detected as WORM_HAMWEQ.DN . If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
